Fan of mystery-thriller Bollywood movies, especially old movies? This list has some movies that are my personal favorites, those were either underrated or not watched by many audiences. Even the new generation will enjoy today these classic thriller movies.

I have not listed the famous movies like Jewel Thief or Mera Saaya or Gumnaam cause even today most of us know about these movies, they will be listed under all-time classic mystery thriller movies but these below-listed movies are as enjoyable as these, so if you have not watched yet, then watch these movies for free on Youtube.

1. CID (1956)


An honest police officer receives a call from his friend saying his life is in danger because he is about to expose links of a very wealthy and powerful person to the underworld. So the officer goes to meet him, but unfortunately, his friend is already dead. He tries to follow the suspect but in vain, then he came to know a pickpocketer has seen the whole murder. Now the officer goes on a mission to find the real culprit behind the murder of his friend.

One of the best movies of the 50s, Dev Anand at his best and do you know that this is the first Bollywood Hindi movie of Waheeda Rehman, she has a small part (supporting actor), so Pyaasa (1957) is considered as her first movie as a leading lady.


2. Anokhi Raat (1968)


On a rainy and stormy night, few people are present in a bungalow that is about to be auctioned. Then a bandit enters the bungalow and creates ruckus locking everyone inside the house. Then he notices a girl who has the same resemblance as his wife, and he starts to tell his story.

One of the most underrated movies of Sanjeev Kumar. Part of the movie is shot in one night, all people in a single house, all have stories; if you love this genre then this movie is for you.


3. Anamika (1973)


A writer saves a woman and takes her to his home for aftercare, she was thrown from a movies car. Due to amnesia, she is not able to remember anything, so she thinks the writer is her husband and they start living happily, but the writer is still confused about her identity. Suddenly one day she leaves the writer and after some days he found her at a party enjoying it, and she bluntly refuses to recognize him. Is she the same person or not? What's her story?


4. Detective (1958)


Mala Sinha who is playing a police officer Loon comes to Calcutta to grab the murderer, but she is trapped and Raja helps her to save from gang people and himself gets trapped.


5. Madhumati (1958)


Deven is a painter and while on the way to the railway station, a landslide changed his plan. So, he took shelter in a mansion and after some time, he realizes that he has already been to this mansion and he knows the mansion very well, from a past life. He starts exploring how he is connected to the mansion.

Movie Om Shanti Om starring Shahrukh Khan is a remake of this movie, it is said that the movie is based on 80s movie Karz and The Reincarnation of Peter Proud (1975), but Karz itself is inspired by Madhumati. Dilip Kumar, Vyjayantimala, Pran and Bimal Roy made this movie a cult and classic.


6. Dhund (1973)


A man crashed his car on a foggy night on hills, so to seek help he managed to find a house, but to his surprise, he sees a dead man and a frightened girl holding a gun. After listening to her tragic story, he decides to help her and cover the crime. is this what it looks like? There is more to it.

One of the best movies of Danny Denzongpa.


7. Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962)


Neela is a well-known stage actress who is accused of killing a man and she confessed her involvement in the crime. In jail, she tries to commit suicide but is saved by a criminal lawyer and he decides to fight for her and starts the investigation, during which he comes to know Neela's struggle from a street dancer to a famous stage actress, and decides to find what actually happened at the night of the murder.


8. Ittefaq (1969)


An accused murderer of his wife fled from a psychiatric facility and takes a forceful entry into a house with a lonely housewife, and threatens to kill her if she calls the police. What happens next? Is this coincidence that he enters her home or there is more to it?

One of the best movies of young Rajesh Khanna, I am not much a fan of a late veteran actor, but I got highly impressed by his performance in this movie as he played a different character from what he usually played as a lover boy. And in the same year, he gave Aradhana, no wonder is he one of the most celebrated actors of India Cinema. A remake of this movie was made in 2017 with a modified plot and ending.


9. Anita (1967)


Anita is a rich girl who is in love with Neeraj, her company's worker. They both tried to tie a knot but Anita's father disrupted the wedding and took her forcefully. Later Neeraj came to know that Anita committed suicide. He decides to find the truth of Anita's death and in the process, he meets different people who told about Anita's past life and everyone had a different version of the story that disturbed him and to the worst, he starts seeing Anita, is this hallucination or some dark mystery?


10. Apradhi Kaun (1957)


A wealthy man living in a bungalow with his big family of three sons, one day he took a decision to give all his property to one of his sons as per the will, this infuriates other family members. Then the man is killed and then a private detective is hired to solve the murder mystery.


11. Baharon Ki Manzil (1968)


On the day of celebration, Nalini got injured and the next day she woke up as a totally different woman. She did not recognize her daughter and recognizes her husband as brother-in-law and further added she is engaged to another person who lives in Bombay. Then she has to undergo psychiatric treatment and surprised everyone with her results that came perfectly normal. Nalini says she is Radha, and later one person even confirms that she is Nanda, Radha's sister and she and her family were all murdered 15 years ago. Then why Nanda claiming to be Radha and why suddenly all of this after 16 years.


12. Bees Saal Baad (1962)


A young man Vijay returns from London to his ancestral home but others warn him to leave as this home is cursed with a ghost of a young girl who was raped by Vijay's grandfather. Since then his family has faced the wrath of the young girl's ghost. Now Kumar is adamant to stop this and hires a private detective to further investigate the matter and end this 20 years of curse or conspiracy.
